    Power Saving 'n' Go Green~

I'm looking at how I can make power saving possible on the end-user side. Does anyone out there has any link or document that can help me with this? I'm looking for the detail on how much power is used in different mode of Windows (eg. shut down, stand-by, screen saver etc) and the most power saving practices. Hopefully I can educate my user in my company so they can also apply in their daily life.

Wink A small effort to go green, a small effort to help save this mother earth. Wink

Not only on the power... Printing too! MUST CUT Down and re-cycle those paper!... So many trees are chopped down for paper making! :(

Maybe we should use back smaller LCD panel with simple PC that used low power PSU~

I can't help in saving paper since my company need to waste paper to get the work done :x That's why I'm looking into saving power instead. Any idea for saving power other then asking user to off their PC after work?

Not an extensive list, but some simple ways I can think of off the top of my head. ;-)

    1. Switch off monitor when not in use.

    2. Put system to standby when going for lunch.

    3. Set shorter screensaver duration.

    4. Use different power saving options, especially for laptops.

I remember reading some website, can't really remember where, that says screensaver use up much more power then stand-by. So it suggested that we set stand-by instead of screensaver. Don't know how true is it. Stick out tongue

    Hi query,

Thanks for the link. I've found a link and listed below. The website can help us to calculate the amount of power used. Hopefully it can be useful for people out there who are interested in creating a 'Green' PC.

You can save paper in many other ways. ;-) Is your HR department using papers..? You can help save papers by turning leave applications, etc paperless! Yes yes, more work for the IT admin, but hey, we're doing our part in saving the environment aren't we? ;p Nonetheless, it should better facilitate staff management and stuff too.. Shouldn't be much of a problem after it's up and running I suppose? :-)

Hey people, check out this interesting tools that Ather introduce to us in one of the thread. I've personally loaded this tool in my laptop. It's a very simple tool that helps you calculate your annual saving when you do some changes to you power setting in your workstation. It also kind of keep us aware of the small bit that we can do to help keep this mother earth green. Do take a look at the thread that Ather posted on forum if you are interested. Dennis, the document you have for download in your blog is .docx format. I was unable to view it as I'm using my office's PC, which doesn't have Office 2007 installed, so I was wondering if it would be better to have it in .doc or .pdf format so everyone can view it? Just a simple suggestion.. :-)

I came across this artical that talks about the lack of Green IT awareness in Asian SME. Take a look during your free time, you might get some useful infomation out of it. Wink
