Erm... sorry, don't really know what it SMS/SCCM. Mind enlightening?
MY office network is isolated network, not connected to HQ network.
Think I should go around froum hopping to get more information on kaboodles. Thanks badz for the information

Nope, haven't really used kaboodles before, just read about it from some forums.

Btw, if you have SMS/SCCM in your infrastructure, you should be able to "scan" these machines even if they are not part of your domain (assuming that your HQ has AD).

For the opensource you mention above, have you personally try it before? Kaboodle seems interesting, got VPN capbaility also. But the website didn't say much~

If what you want to accomplish is just to map your network, there are a lot of third-party ($) tools out there. Two open-source alternatives: =)

If you need to do more than that, maybe you can list down the topology of your network (OS, apps, etc) and see if any of these OSS alternatives suit your needs:

4. OpenNMS - http://opennms.org
5. Nedi - http://nedi.sourceforge.net

Background
I so-called took over the network of my office 5 month ago and recently realise the network is kinda messy. Messy in terms of everything, from server down to client. So I thought of getting a diagrame out to help me better understand at the same time help me better explain to my boss about current problem. Best part of all, my network got no AD, just a webserver sitting there for client to connect so they can connect to internet.

Question

Apparently this tool can't work (I believe) since I don't have an AD. So is there anyway to achieve the above mention result without having a AD in my network?

It should work nicely on AD2008 too.
Nothing much has changed funadamentally.

This tools is not new but just happened that one of my friend who got a new job with DEEP as he took over an environemt without paper work - ZERO.

So, now helping him to discover his whole environemtn starting with his AD.

Well, as what the name of the tools explain a bit... It will draw out your AD diagram and display in Visio! :)

Must better explanation about this tools is under the link and where to download? Its under the link below. Most important of all... It works under Active Directory 2003 nicely. AD2008? Not sure as I got to chance to test it out yet!
